For Physicians & Prescribers
South Jersey’s Prescription
Footwear Partner Since 1958
When you write the prescription, we take it from there.
Carl’s is a pedorthic services provider — not a shoe store that happens to fill prescriptions. Three American Board Certified Pedorthists, custom orthotics fabricated on premises, and insurance billed in-house. Your patient gets fitted properly; your office gets its afternoon back.

Why Carl’s
Why refer here instead of anywhere else
Your prescription is only as good as the fitting behind it.
A therapeutic shoe that’s dispensed but not properly fitted doesn’t do what you prescribed it to do — and the patient comes back to you, not to the retailer. Referring to a certified pedorthic provider protects the clinical outcome you intended.
We’ve been that provider for South Jersey physicians for more than six decades, from the same Main Street address, with the same family running it.

-
Credentialed, not retail-trained. Three American Board Certified Pedorthists on staff, plus a certified orthotic fitter. Your patient is assessed by someone qualified to interpret your prescription — every time, not when someone’s available.
-
Fabrication happens on premises. Custom-molded orthotics and extra-depth shoe modifications are made and adjusted here — not shipped to a distant lab. That means faster turnaround, and adjustments handled the same day the patient walks in.
-
We carry the administrative load. Insurance verification and billing are handled in-house. Your front desk isn’t fielding coverage questions, and your patient isn’t sent home with paperwork to chase.
-
Continuity your patients can rely on. Same team, same location, three generations. Patients aren’t passed between rotating staff — and long-term diabetic and orthotic patients are seen by people who remember them.
-
Dignity keeps patients compliant. Therapeutic footwear only works if it’s worn. We fit modern styles patients aren’t embarrassed by — which does more for adherence than any reminder you can give them.

Prescriber Questions
What your office usually asks
A written prescription with the diagnosis and what you’re ordering. For patients using a Medicare therapeutic shoe benefit, we’ll also need the certifying statement and relevant chart notes from the managing physician — we’ll tell you exactly what’s missing rather than sending the patient back to you blind.
We contact referred patients directly to schedule, usually within one business day. Appointment availability is typically within the same week. Urgent cases — call us and we’ll work them in.
We bill most major plans directly, including Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Horizon NJ Health. Coverage and eligibility vary by plan and patient, and we verify before the appointment so there are no surprises for them or for you.
Yes. Custom-molded orthotics and modifications to extra-depth footwear are fabricated and adjusted on premises by our own team. Nothing is outsourced to a third-party lab, so turnaround is faster and adjustments don’t require another shipping cycle.
Yes. We confirm to your office what was dispensed and note anything clinically relevant we observed during the fitting. If something in the prescription doesn’t match what we’re seeing on the patient’s foot, we’ll call you before proceeding.
Give us a call. We’re happy to drop off or send business cards and referral information for your front desk, so your staff has our details on hand when a patient needs a fitting.
