Family-owned since 1958
Our Story
Three generations, one Main Street corner, and a simple idea that never went out of style: Where Shoes Are Fitted, Not Just Sold®

Our Philosophy
Where Shoes Are Fitted, Not Just Sold®

The right fit changes everything.
Most adults are wearing the wrong size — and feet keep changing for a lifetime. So we don’t guess. We measure every foot, every time, and take the time to get it right. It’s slower than pulling a box off a shelf. That’s the point.
Our Process
-
Every foot, every time. Both feet measured at every visit.
-
People, not self-checkout. Certified fitters who know growing, aging, and hard-to-fit feet.
-
Range that’s genuinely rare. Sizes 4–18, widths AA–EEEEEE.
-
No rush, ever. The appointment is yours until the fit is right.
A Legacy of Fit
Three Generations. One Promise.

Carl Barone built this store from nothing in 1958, and ran it the same honest way for more than sixty years. Three generations grew up on this fitting floor.
Today his grandson Jeff Higman — a Certified Pedorthist, like his grandfather — owns and runs Carl’s from the same corner, carrying the same promise forward: shoes that are fitted, not just sold.

Carl’s Shoes’ History
A Main Street fixture in Moorestown since 1958
-
1932
Carl Barone is born in Camden, New Jersey.
-
Age 12
Carl begins his shoe career as a stock boy at Shapiro Shoes in Camden — later selling shoes at Ricky's Shoes in Haddonfield.
-
1952
Carl marries his high-school sweetheart, Loretta. He soon serves in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
-
1958
Carl opens Carl's Shoes at 27 West Main Street, Moorestown — on the simple promise that every customer's shoes should actually fit. The family settles in town soon after.
-
1980s
Carl becomes a Certified Pedorthist, adding orthotics and physician-prescription work right inside the store.
-
1982
The store doubles in size with the addition of the building next door.
-
March 2005
A fire guts the store and its inventory. With the loyalty of the community Carl had fitted for decades, the family rebuilds and reopens
-
Today
Three generations later, Carl's remains a family business — and physicians across the tri-state area still send patients to the same Main Street corner. Grandson Jeff Higman, a Certified Pedorthist, now owns and runs the store.
